Boogie Fland is On3’s No. 9 player in the 2024 class. The 6-foot-3 guard from White Plains (NY) Archbishop Stepinac has been a standout all spring both at Pangos All-American Camp and on the EYBL 16u Circuit.

“I’m a combo guard,” Fland told On3. “I like to do a little of both. I’m a leader on the court. I’m not the selfish type. Everyone likes to play with me because I’m selfless. I try to play like Ja Morant. He’s unselfish and gets his teammates involved. He’s explosive, and I’m trying to build that in me. I’m taking bits and pieces here and there. I like to watch a lot of Sharife Cooper when he was in high school.”

College programs have already started to prioritize the rising junior. On3 caught up with Boogie Fland to talk about which schools stand out.

“I just visited St. John’s,” Fland said. “I want to see Rutgers, Seton Hall, Villanova, and maybe some others in June.”

Fland talks visits

St. John’s: “They’re close to home. They are right there. I know Joel Soriano from there. Posh Alexander, Dylan Addae-Wusu, all of those guys are from where I’m from. To get an offer from them, I’m grateful.”

Seton Hall: “I know Shaheen Holloway just went there. I don’t know too much yet. I’m still trying to do my research. I’m still young, so I have time.

Rutgers: “I know Ron Harper Jr. went there. I take things from his game. He’s a big guard.”

Villanova: “They fit my playstyle. Everyone says Villanova is a good fit for me. They run plays well and get everyone involved. They haven’t offered yet.”

“Just being a point guard, you have to get everyone involved,” Fland added. “Do what the coaches tell you, and you’re the coach’s right-hand man. You’re the coach of the floor, basically. I have to know all the plays, where everyone will be, and their spots. I can shoot, dish and attack.”

Fland’s take

“I’m excited about the photos and the photoshoots,” Fland said. “But you have to ask the serious questions. Questions like ‘how am I going to fit into your program?’ Or ‘what is my role coming in as a freshman, and how many minutes am I going to be playing?’ How can I contribute to the team’s success? You have to ask those tough questions.

“Play style is definitely going to matter. I like a fast-paced pick-and-roll offense. I wouldn’t say I know right now because my game will keep evolving, and I will keep getting offers. Location, I’m not too worried about it; I’m taking my family wherever I go.”
