Top-100 CB Corian Gipson sets a commitment date

Corian Gipson has long been eyeing to have his college commitment in place ahead of his senior season, and now the On300 defensive back has a date locked in.

Gipson, a top-70 cornerback from the Dallas Metroplex, will reveal his college decision on Saturday, July 22 in the Lancaster (Texas) High School gymnasium. The On3 Industry Ranking’s No. 8 cornerback will have hats the table representing each of his final schools, including Texas, Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State and TCU

After a busy June, the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine favors the in-state Longhorns over Clemson and also Ohio State. The Longhorns hosted Gipson for his final official visit last weekend. He has long been a top target for this Texas coaching staff.

Even before diving into his official visits in June, Gipson began moving closer and closer toward a decision.

“It’s getting real close,” Gipson told On3 of his timeline. “It’s getting real close.”

“It’s gonna be in June or July, and definitely before the season,” the 6-foot-1, 175-pound defensive back continued. “I’m getting closer for sure.”

Gipson checks in as the No. 67 player in the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also tabbed as the No. 12-ranked recruit inside the Lone Star State for the Class of 2024.

Smooth defensive back with the speed and skills to play multiple spots in the secondary. Has a thin build, checking in at around 6-feet, 165 pounds with a 6-foot-2.5 wing-span at the Under Armour Dallas camp prior to his senior season. Turns in strong marks as a sprinter in track and field. Consistently runs sub 11 seconds in the 100 meters, with a personal best of 10.62 seconds as a junior. Has lined up at both corner and safety for Lancaster, but is starting to look more and more like a cornerback prospect as his career progresses. At ease covering outside or in the slot. Has relatively refined footwork in coverage. Transitions easily. Shows the top-end speed to run with receivers on vertical routes. Triggers quickly in defending underneath routes. Will need to tack on considerable mass to his thin frame. Did not have a ton of ball production as a junior.
