LOOK: Top 2022 recruit Travis Hunter arrives at SWAC Media Days with injury
Travis Hunter was one of the Jackson State players to appear at SWAC Media Days on Thursday. But the Tigers star freshman is dealing with an injury — a concerning sight with training camp around the corner.
Hunter was wearing a walking boot on his right leg as he deals with a sprained ankle ahead of the season, he told reporters. He said recovery has been going well, though, which is a good sign.
Hunter made waves on National Signing Day this year when he flipped his commitment from Florida State to Jackson State and coach Deion Sanders. He was a Five Star Plus+ recruit, meaning he’s one of the only players ranked by all four major recruiting media companies as a five-star.
He was also the No. 2 prospect from the class of 2022, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. At the time of his commitment flip, he was the No. 1 player in the nation, according to the On3 Consensus.

How Travis Hunter’s flip to Jackson State made news over the offseason
His flip was a major discussion point this offseason, and it came up during an event in Birmingham in May when Alabama head coach Nick Saban alleged Jackson State “paid a guy a million dollars” to play football, saying “it was in the paper,” as well. Hunter took to Twitter to respond and shoot down the Crimson Tide headman’s comments.
“I got A mil? (laughing face emoji)” Hunter tweeted. “But my mom still stay in a 3 bed room house with five kids (laughing face emoji).”
Hunter, who’s expected to play cornerback and wide receiver for Jackson State this year, put on a show at Jackson State’s spring game. He had two touchdown catches and two interceptions, showing the impact he can make on both sides of the ball for the Tigers.
