Braylon Mullins talks programs involved
In a previous interview with On3, Braylon Mullins discussed several programs in pursuit of his talents.
UConn: “I’m going to visit them August 1-2. They’re a two-time national champion with Dan Hurley. It’s cool to be recruited by them. I just want to go there and see the campus and their facilities with my own two eyes and see what they’re all about. See how I fit in with their system, that is what it is all about for me. They’ve sent me some Cam Spencer clips a little, his ability to run off screens, catch and shoot, and in ball screen action. I’m a little more than just a shooter.”
MICHIGAN: “That visit is September 5. Coach (Dusty) May is sticking out to me, when I went on my unofficial visit there a month or two back, he showed me how I would fit into their offense. He showed me around campus. I spent that whole day with him, usually, it is the assistant coach driving me around but there it was Coach May, so I was able to get to know him a little. He is a great guy and a great coach. He runs a lot of good stuff.”
UNC: “I feel like they’ve been out recruiting a lot because they’re recruiting a lot of people. But with them, they’ve called and texted me a lot recently, Coach (Sean) May showed out to my Charlie Hughes Showcase for my June high school season. It is good to see them around, and they brought four deep to watch me here, that means a lot.”

INDIANA: “I mean, I’m an Indiana kid, I grew up just an hour down the road. I don’t know if I’m going to stay home or not, but it is good to have them as an outlet. I’ve talked with Coach (Brian) Walsh since the end of freshman year, the beginning of my sophomore year, and they always make it a priority because I’m an Indiana kid and they want to get Indiana kids at Indiana.”
PURDUE: “They have been a great program with Coach (Matt) Painter. Coach Painter is a great guy, I’ve been on like three unofficial visits there. That is probably the most time I have spent with the players was at Purdue. They’re team bonding, you can just tell it is different, and that is why they make it so far in the tournament. They run good stuff and I could see myself there as well.”
TENNESSEE: “I have that visit at the end of October. I’ve talked a lot with Coach (Greg) Polinski, the assistant coach. He’s a funny guy, an older guy. They have an old-school coaching staff, a lot of basketball knowledge and that would be good for me, just to get a feel for what old school is like. Right when they started recruiting me, from the get-go, they told me that I reminded them of Dalton Knecht. At least the shooting portion, because he is known more of a slashing wing, so if I can implement that into my game and replicate what he did, I could get to the league.”
KENTUCKY: “I went on my unofficial visit there a couple of weeks back, and they offered me on my unofficial. Coach (Mark) Pope is a player’s coach, you can tell that. He gets to know you a lot. I spent that whole day with him, and that was the most film I have watched in a while. We looked at my statistics, my efficiency, and transition, we watched all my turnovers. He just likes to correct what is wrong, and I feel like that means a lot when trying to get better as a player. On my visit, he took me all the way to the top of Rupp and was just saying, “I remember when I won that National Championship with the 1996 team.” He has a lot of pressure on him coaching a blue blood program, but he makes it well known that he has a priority in his recruitment and he wants to recruit good players and good people and do things the right way. He thinks if he can do that, he can be successful.”
KANSAS: “At first they thought they were out of my recruitment, someone said to them that I was not interested which is not true. We talked before this event and I made sure they understood I wanted Kansas in my recruitment. Coach (Bill) Self is a hall-of-fame coach and he will get you anywhere you want to be. He is a great coach and I wat to learn more about them because I haven’t been able to build that relationship with them yet. I want to see that campus with my own two eyes. It is going to be a great experience.”
What he’s looking for in a school
“The team bonding will be big for me,” Braylon Mullins said. “I want to see myself fit into a system with good people, good coaches, and a good community. I’d like to have fun when I’m there. You know, you’re going to be living there year-round, so you want to have fun. Also, I want to work my ass off to see myself playing as a freshman, so I want to opportunity to work hard and be able to do that.”
