Top 5 transfers that will impact 2021-2022 college basketball season
There are many reasons why players transfer colleges – coaching, playing time, wanting to be closer to home or even a family situation.
We have seen an exponential amount of transfers lately in college basketball because of the “COVID year” that allows seniors an extra year of eligibility. The NCAA also lifted the requirement to sit out a year when players transferred schools. This has created situations where college coaches can now acquire players like NBA free agents.
With that in mind, here are the top five transfers that will impact the 2021-2022 college basketball season.
Remy Martin
Transfer: Arizona State to Kansas
6-0/175, PG
Remy Martin was one of the most desired transfers this year. He was a three-time All-Pac-12 honoree and averaged 19.1 points in his last two seasons. After testing the NBA draft process, Martin made the decision to transfer to Kansas and pursue his master’s degree. With the addition of Martin, the Jayhawks are the favorite to win the Big 12 title once again.
Kellan Grady
Transfer: Davidson to Kentucky
6-5/200, PG
Kellan Grady scored over 2,000 points while starting 113 of his 115 games in his four years at Davidson. Because of the NCAA waiver, he is able to return to college for his fifth season and will do it in Lexington. Grady hit at least 3 3-pointers in 11 games and averaged 17.2 points, making him a valuable asset to the Kentucky Wildcats. Kellen has the possibility to go to Kentucky and have the same impact that Tyler Herro had.

Marcus Carr
Transfer: Minnesota to Texas
6-2/195, PG
Macus Carr is one of the best guards in the country. After averaging 19.4 points, four rebounds, and 4.9 assists in 2020, he was named to first-team All-Big Ten. He withdrew from the NBA draft and selected Texas over Louisville, Kentucky and Kansas. With the transfer of Carr, coach Chris Beard’s Longhorns have a decent chance of securing the No. 1 spot in the preseason.
James Akinjo
Transfer: Arizona to Baylor
6-1/185, PG
James Akingo will join the defending champions at Baylor this upcoming season, making it his third school in four years. Notably, Akingo averaged 15.6 shooting and 40.8% from beyond the 3-point arc. He also added 5.4 assists per game. These statistics allowed him to earn first-team All-Pac 12 honors.
Timmy Allen
Transfer: Utah to Texas
6-6/198, Forward
Along with Carr, Timmy Allen joins the Texas Longhorns as a transfer under Beard. Allen averaged 19.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in his junior year, as well as being named to the All-Pac 12 conference first team. Allen is an efficient scorer and an impressive pickup by Texas. Allen arriving on the Forty Acres will only be further amplified by his new teammate Carr.
