Thomas Castellanos has committed to Florida State out of the NCAA Transfer Portal.

This comes after much interest between Castellanos and FSU since his official entry into the portal, especially with their hire of an offensive coordinator who he has a history with in Gus Malzahn, with the predictions on him per RPM were 100% toward the Seminoles. That included a visit to Tallahassee, the first on his schedule as a transfer, just a few days later. Now, that has resulted in his commitment to them today.

With that, Florida State added one of the top quarterbacks in the portal. Castellanos ranked as the No. 8 QB and No. 79 overall transfer per the latest in On3’s 2025 Top Transfer Portal Players.

Castellanos has played three collegiate seasons with one at UCF, where he played as a backup under Malzahn, and two at Boston College. In that time, specifically with the Golden Eagles and especially as a sophomore, he has been one of the better dual-threat players in the country as he is 297-507 (58.6%) in passing for 3,689 yards, 33 touchdowns, and 19 interceptions while he has also rushed for 1,427 yards and 15 more scores on 322 carries.

That, ironically, included two great outings that he had when facing Florida State. In a 1-1 split against the Seminoles, including a 28-13 win this past year in their opener at Doak Campbell, Castellanos was 30-49 (61.2%) for 411 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception while running for 168 yard and two more scores. That averages out to 289.5 total yards, at 9.7 yards per play, for five total touchdowns for him against them the last two seasons.

However, his last season this past fall in Chestnut Hill ended in his benching at BC for Grayson James. That led to his plans to enter himself in the portal back in mid-November.

Castellano’s commitment to Florida State has reportedly very likely since his name was officially in the portal. Those reports are now accurate with his decision today to stay in the ACC by choosing the ‘Noles.
