Transfer Portal: The top Point Guards still available
Over 2,000 players entered the college basketball transfer portal during the 45-day open window. That window is now closed, so while many players have already committed to college programs, there are still some out there.
As the old saying goes, guard play wins in March. So let’s discuss the top point guards still available in the college basketball transfer portal.
2024 College Basketball Transfer Portal Rankings
1. DJ Wagner, Kentucky
DJ Wagner, a former McDonald’s All-American averaged 9.9 points, 3.3 assists, and started 28 of 29 games played for Kentucky this season. The 6-foot-3 former Five-Star Plus+ recruit earned SEC All-Freshman honors after winning 22 of the 28 games he started and carrying a 2.2:1 assist-to-turnover ratio while shooting 40.5 percent from the field.
2. AJ Hoggard, Michigan State
AJ Hoggard started 83 of the 131 games he played over his four seasons at Michigan State. The 6-foot-4 grad transfer averaged 10.7 points, 5.2 assists, and 1.4 steals per game and shot 34.7 percent from three on the season. The former four-star recruit has made the NCAA Tournament each year in college with four tournament wins.
3. Khalil Brantley, La Salle
Khalil Brantley finished top 15 in scoring and top six in assists in the A10 in each of the previous two seasons. Last year, the 6-foot-1 junior averaged 15.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. Over his past two years at La Salle, Brantley has started 62 of the 65 games he has played while knocking down 1.3 threes per game. His 15.6 points produced per game was fifth in the conference last season.

4. Derin Saran, UC Irvine
Derin Saran did not start a game last season at UC Irvine, nor did he average 20 minutes played per game. However, the 6-foot-4 freshman did average 10.1 points for a team that finished first in the Big West and had eleven players play in 28 or more games and average between 10.7 and 27.1 minutes per game. The native of Turkey shot 40.0 percent from three through his first 17 games and averaged 21.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 2.0 steals per 40 minutes played this season.
5. Quadir Copeland, Syracuse
Quadir Copeland came off the bench for Syracuse to average 9.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. The 6-foot-6/200-pound former four-star recruit played in 32 games and shot 47.8 percent from the field. Copeland is originally from the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area and he graduated high school from IMG Academy/FL.
