Travaris Robinson was announced as the co-defensive coordinator at Georgia on Saturday, but there was talk on Sunday that he could end up remaining at Alabama instead.

However, according to a report from Chris Low of ESPN, Robinson will indeed coach at Georgia for the 2024 season.

“Travaris Robinson interviewed with new @AlabamaFTBL coach Kalen DeBoer for several hours Sunday for the defensive coordinator job, but has decided to remain at Georgia, sources tell ESPN,” Low posted.

Travaris Robinson spent the previous two seasons at Alabama working under Nick Saban. With Saban retiring, he is now on the move.

Robinson is replacing Will Muschamp, who is moving into an analyst role at Georgia. Kirby Smart released a statement about the move on Saturday.

“We are pleased to announce Travaris Robinson as our new Co-Defensive Coordinator and Safeties Coach,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said in a statement, per DawgsHQ. “Travaris has 17 years of college coaching experience, including over a decade in the SEC mentoring some of the top defenses statistically in the NCAA.”

Travaris Robinson has coached all over the SEC, spending time at FloridaAuburnSouth Carolina and most recently Alabama. Robinson also coached at Texas Tech and Miami.

Robinson spent two seasons at Alabama, helping the Crimson Tide win the SEC and reach the College Football Playoff this past season. He is known as an excellent recruiter.

He will try to help Georgia win its third national title in four seasons in 2024. The Bulldogs are expected to once again have one of the best teams in the nation this coming season.

“We are excited about the addition of Coach Robinson and his family to the University of Georgia, while having the opportunity to retain Coach Muschamp and his family on our staff,” Smart said in the statement, per DawgsHQ.

Report: Caleb Downs uncertain about future with Alabama amid staff turnover

Alabama could be losing one of its top players to the transfer portal soon. Star safety Caleb Downs is reportedly still deciding whether or not to enter the transfer portal after Nick Saban retired as head coach last week.

“I was told that Alabama freshman Caleb Downs hasn’t made a decision on his future yet, if he’ll stay or transfer,” ESPN’s Tom VanHaaren posted on Twitter. “He’d like to see who’s added to the Bama defensive staff, but very likely could make a decision either way tomorrow. Travaris Robinson staying at Georgia factors in.”

Robinson helped Alabama land Downs. He would be the position coach for Downs at Georgia.
