Travis Hunter claps back at FSU five-star signee Hykeem Williams
When Hykeem Williams reaffirmed his commitment to Florida State ahead of National Signing Day, he took a jab at former FSU commit Travis Hunter. The two later went back and forth on Twitter, and Hunter clapped back at Williams again Thursday night.
It all started when Williams appeared to address rumors of Colorado coach Deion Sanders calling him ahead of his signing day, saying he “ain’t no Travis Hunter over here” on an Instagram Live. Hunter then retweeted a tweet from On3’s Warchant with the quote with a response, and Williams responded in kind.
Then, Hunter retweeted that tweet with another response.
“They will take me over u right now,” Hunter said, along with a thinking emoji. “Better ask yo coach.”
Williams is a key piece of Florida State’s recruiting class as a five-star recruit and the No. 30-ranked prospect in the nation from the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Hunter, meanwhile, wrapped up his first season at Jackson State after flipping from Florida State last year. He then entered the transfer portal and committing to Colorado late Wednesday night, following Sanders to Boulder.

Injuries were part of the 2022 season for Hunter, not getting to play in every game for the Tigers. However, he still put up impressive stats on both sides of the ball, showing we teams around the country wanted him.

Hunter recorded 11 tackles but was really impressive in coverage. He had seven passes defended and intercepted two passes. One even went for a touchdown, taking a 44-yard pick-six the other way.
On the offensive end, Hunter caught 13 passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns. An impressive yards-per-catch average of 10.9 will have Sanders hoping his star athlete can still play both sides with the Buffaloes.
Hunter pulled off one of, if not the, biggest surprises in the history of recruiting. Being a Five-Star Plus+ prospect, he turned away multiple Power Five programs in order to sign with Jackson State. Of course, Sanders was a huge reason why. Hunter played high school football at Suwanee (Ga.) Collins Hill, where he was a Five-Star Plus+ prospect. He was the No. 2 overall recruit and No. 1 athlete in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus.
