Trentyn Flowers is the No. 8 ranked player in On3’s 2024 class. The 6-foot-8 wing recently transferred to nationally ranked Lincolnton (NC) Combine Academy for his junior season. Prior to his sophomore year, Flowers experienced a big growth spurt, jumping from around 6-foot-3 to 6-foot-7, 6-foot-8.

“My game is unique and different,” Flowers told On3. “I’m 6-8, 6-9 and can handle the basketball and shoot really well. I got a great feel for the game and am very explosive and athletic. My mindset is to be a pro one day, so while my game is pretty complete, I have to keep working on everything. I’ll watch a lot of Jayson Tatum and LaMelo Ball. The way Tatum scores and gets to his spots and Melo’s feel for the game, at his size, is just different.”

College programs have taken notice of Flower’s game as the five-star currently claims over 35 offers. On3 caught up with Trentyn Flowers at Combine’s open gym this week to talk about his recruitment.

“The schools I’ve been in contact with the most are North Carolina, Louisville is really consistent now, Florida State has been really consistent with me,” Flowers said.

Flowers talks recruitment

North Carolina: “That was a really big offer. I cried a little when I got it, to be honest; it was just a really big offer. Michael Jordan and Vince Carter are some really good shooting guards who went there, and even in more recent years, Justin Jackson. They got Armando Bacot and Caleb Love there now and just went to the NCAA finals.”

Louisville: “That is a special place; it’s really nice there. I visited the campus last year and really loved it. They also have a great coaching staff there. Donovan Mitchell and Montrezel Harrell, along with many other greats, went there.”

Florida State: “I watched the process they took with Scottie Barnes and the freedom they gave him on the ball. They see me fitting into their offense like with Barnes. They have a great coaching staff that gets the best out of their players.”

“I’ve talked some with Kentucky and Duke, but they haven’t offered yet,” Flowers said.

Flowers talks visits

“I have an official visit set up with Memphis for October 6,” Flowers said. “That is my first official, and then I’ll take a Georgia State official on October 28.”

Memphis: “Coach Penny (Hardaway) tells me that I remind him of a younger him. He was unbelievably good, and just to be able to be coached by a person like that, who has been through it. He knows what the blueprint looks like to be a big guard; that’s my type of coach.”

Georgia State: “Coach (Jonas) Hayes has been consistent with me. He was the first one to offer me when it was at Xavier, and he has always stayed in touch with me. Right, when he got the head job at Georgia State, I was one of the first guys he offered. He is just like family at this point. For me, I’m always going to want to start my own wave with the people I’m most comfortable with.”

“I just took an unofficial to Virginia Tech,” Flowers said. “For the officials, something with Louisville is in the works, also Kansas, and Alabama maybe.”

G-League and Overtime Elite

“I’ve talked with Overtime Elite a lot,” Flowers said. “I’ve been in the meetings, and everything with them and have already been offered by them. I chose to come to Combine.

“With the G-League, it has come, but it hasn’t come at the same time. There has been a lot of circulation about me going G-League; I like what they got going on. Matas Buzelis just went there, and another big guard they got was Leonard Miller, who is really good. There are a lot of players who have gone through there and become lottery picks.

In Flowers’ words

“When I look for a college choice, I’m looking for a place that just fits me and who I am as a person,” Trentyn Flowers said. “I want to go somewhere where a coach is going to keep his word and take care of me.

I want to play in a positionless offense. Don’t just tell me it’s positionless and when I get there, I have to change my style. I want to go somewhere I can go there and fit in right away. Also, I’ll be looking at schools that have a blueprint for guys like me too. There are a lot of great schools out there, but at the end of the day, you can only choose one.”
