Trev Alberts claims Texas A&M-Texas rivalry can be 'the best rivalry game in all of college football'
The Texas A&M Aggies and Texas Longhorns are back in the same conference and with that, the Lone Star Showdown is back on in college football. It’s a game that Aggies athletic director Trev Alberts believes could be the best rivalry in college football.
“I think that this game has the chance to be the best rivalry game in all of college football,” Trev Alberts said.
The rivalry is known as the Lone Star Showdown and the Longhorns have the all-time lead with a record of 76-37-5 all-time. The first time the two teams met was back in 1894 and they met a total of 118 times in their history. The longest win streak is held by the Longhorns, who won 10 games between 1957 and 1966. As for the Aggies, their longest win streak is six games between 1984 and 1989.
However, following Texas A&M’s move to the SEC, the rivalry ended in football. It hasn’t been played since 2011 when Texas won a close game over Texas A&M.
Both teams, of course, have other great rivalries. For Texas, the most notable other rivalry comes with Oklahoma who is also moving to the SEC so that series can continue. Meanwhile, Texas A&M has established new rivalries over the years with teams like LSU and Alabama. Still, this one is special.

Luckily, for fans, the rivalry that Trev Alberts says could be the best in all of college football is back now that Texas has joined the SEC. The Aggies and Longhorns are now set to meet in the final week of the regular season in College Station.
Trev Alberts on Lone Star Showdown’s new sponsor
The Lone Star Showdown has a new title sponsor in Cotton Holdings. It’s a partnership that Trev Alberts believes is ideal for the rivalry.
“The 12th Man is ready for the return of the Lone Star Showdown, and Cotton Holdings is the ideal title sponsor of a rivalry series of this stature,” Alberts said. “Texas A&M Athletics has a long history with Cotton Holdings, and it is a home-grown, Texas-based company with a global impact. We are proud to partner with an organization that shares our values and commitment to excellence.”
Cotton Holdings is a company based in Houston, Texas, and describes itself as a ” leading infrastructure support services company operating within the $20 billion U.S. commercial restoration market.” Among the activities the business does includes property restoration and recovery, construction, roofing, consulting, and temporary workforce housing.
