During the Jacksonville Jaguars’ upset win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence suffered a lower-body/ankle injury. As he dropped back to pass, one of his offensive linemen came down on it.

The former No. 1 overall pick was asked about his injury after the game, giving everybody an update. Lawrence seems to be in a wait-and-see type of mode, wanting more time to figure out the exact injury.

“I’m feeling a little bit better,” Lawrence said after the game. “Scanned it. Nothing concerning there. See how it feels tomorrow and the rest of the week. I’m sure it’s going to be sore. We’ll see. Just get a bunch of treatment and try to get back healthy.”

After falling onto the ground, Lawrence had to be helped off the field. Instead of making his way toward the medical tent, he went directly to the locker room. C.J. Bethard entered the game as Jacksonville’s quarterback.

Former NFL doctor talks Lawrence’s injury

Former NFL doctor David Chao went to Twitter to speculate on Lawrence’s injury, even saying at the time a second-half return was possible. At the time, Jacksonville ruled him as questionable to return.

“By video, right lower leg kicked by heal of his own backup left tackle,” Chao said on Twitter. “Hoping X-rays negative and more pain/contusion than injury with possible return in 2nd half.”

Lawrence eventually came back into the game, throwing for a total of 118 yards on 15/26 passing and helping the Jaguars acquire their second win of the season. Sunday was just the third time he had not thrown an interception in a game. However, a three-game streak of throwing at least one touchdown pass was broken.

Overall on the season, the quarterback has now thrown for 1,821. His touchdown-interception ratio is below one, going for eight touchdowns and nine interceptions. Lawrence’s completion percentage currently sits at 59.5.

Jacksonville is hoping the former Clemson product can be the guy to turn around their franchise. Investing the No. 1 overall pick in Lawrence, they paired him with one of college football’s greatest coaches of all time, Urban Meyer, after a great college career.

He led Clemson to a national championship in 2018, defeating Alabama as a true freshman. Although he fell to LSU in the national championship game the next season, Lawrence continued to show strides in 2019, throwing for over 3,600 yards and a career-high 36 touchdowns. He became the second Heisman Trophy finalist in program history in 2020 following another excellent campaign.
