4-star Treyvon Maddox picking up early recruiting steam
Treyvon Maddox is the No. 41 player in the 2025 On3 50. The four-star wing is starting for defending state South Carolina champion West Columbia (SC) Gray Collegiate. The sophomore averaged 11.0 points and 7.0 rebounds last year as a freshman.
“I attack the basket well,” Maddox told On3. “Play in transition, and I am shooting the three well. I watch a lot of Kevin Durant; he’s so long, he is patient with the ball, and can score at every level. The crowd loves dunks; I like dunking, would say that is what I do best right now. I play with energy and defend, try to be coachable.”
Maddox played this summer with the Florida Rebels program on Nike’s EYBL 15u Circuit. College coaches have already taken notice of the 6-foot-7 wing.
“I have offers from Radford, Akron, Jacksonville State, and South Florida,” Maddox said. “We’ve also heard from Duke, Tennessee, Florida State, North Carolina, and South Carolina. I visited Tennessee and am setting one up with Florida State.”
In his coach’s words
Dion Bethea, the Gray Collegiate (SC) head coach, has won four of the last five South Carolina 2A state championships. He has coached numerous D-I players, including four and five-star prospects.

“He has a great frame and a lot of athleticism,” Dion Bethea told On3. “The thing he doesn’t get enough credit for is he makes shots. If he continues to keep working, his talent could really take off over the next couple of years.
“I always send him stuff on Jalen Green,” Bethea said. “Jalen and Paul George. I think he is a lot like those guys at a younger age. I really think he has a chance to be a top-20-type guy in the country with what he has naturally and how hard he works on both ends of the floor.”
In Maddox’s words
While Treyvon Maddox is a top-50 ranked player, he has a long way to go in his recruitment. He has started to think about what he will be looking for in a program.
“I’ll be looking at the academics of the school,” Maddox said. “I want to play on the wing, for sure, and with a team that will get up and down, run. Location won’t matter to me, would like to play in a system that moves the ball.”
