Clemson wide receiver Troy Stellato plans to enter the transfer portal, he tells On3. The former four-star recruit has dealt with injuries throughout his college career and has two years of eligibility remaining.

Despite the injuries, Stellato was able to put together a breakout season in 2023. A top-200 recruit in the 2021 class, he finished with 38 catches for 321 yards and a touchdown over 12 games, including six starts. And in 2024, he finished with 25 catches for 264 yards and a touchdown.

Clemson finished 9-3 this season and plays for the ACC title on Saturday against SMU. Stellato’s season was cut short in November with season-ending hand surgery.

“Nothing he does surprises me,” Dabo Swinney said last season. “I’m really proud of him, and I’m just happy for him. The kid has been on ice for two years, and that’s really hard when you’re a great football player and a highly recruited guy and for two years, you got all these issues. So, it’s really cool, and sometimes a guy just needs a little bit of success, and man, it’s just like throwing fuel on the fire. It’s been really good to see.”

A Florida native, Troy Stellato initially picked the Tigers over Alabama, LSU, North Carolina, Ohio State and USC.

The transfer portal officially opens on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024. More than 2,800 FBS scholarship players entered their names into the NCAA’s transfer database during the 2023-24 school year. Removing those who withdrew or went pro, the final total sat at 2,707 transfers. That means roughly 25% of all FBS scholarship players hit free agency in one year.
