True Freshman Report: Snap Counts from Texas A&M vs Mississippi State

In Saturday’s loss to Mississippi State, Texas A&M’s youth was on full display. Through five games, the Aggies are one of the youngest teams in the country and that was evident in the loss to the Bulldogs. On Saturday, 12 true freshmen played, including two that made their debuts for the Aggies.

Freshmen on Offense

Evan Stewart – 64 snaps

Stewart played the most of the freshmen on offense once again and finished the day with five receptions for 56 yards. On the season he now has 18 receptions for 197 yards and one touchdown. He was also the second highest graded wide receiver run-blocking for Texas A&M on Saturday.

Chris Marshall – 60 snaps

Marshall played in 60 snaps on Saturday and came on strong in the second half, finishing the day with four receptions for 27 yards.

Donovan Green – 51 snaps

Green’s role is growing by the week and he took the most snaps of any Texas A&M tight end on Saturday. On the day, he finished with two receptions for 19 yards.

Noah Thomas – 11 snaps

Thomas played in eleven snaps late in the game on Saturday but didn’t record any stats.

Le’Veon Moss – 1 snap

Moss, the former four-star out of Baton Rouge (La.) Istrouma made his Texas A&M debut on Saturday and had one carry for two yards. Look for the Aggies to get the freshman more involved moving forward.

Freshmen on Defense

Denver Harris – 52 snaps

After Jaylon Jones left the game early with injury, Harris stepped into a bigger role and had an up and down day. He finished with three tackles and two pass breakups, but let up three receptions for 20 yards and a touchdown on five targets.

Shemar Stewart – 41 snaps

The defensive end out of South Florida played the most of any freshman defensive lineman on Texas A&M’s roster once again and finished the day with three tackles and one quarterback hurry.

Lebbeus Overton – 27 snaps

Overton played in 27 snaps on Saturday and had one tackle and one pressure and hit on the quarterback.

Anthony Lucas – 27 snaps

Lucas finished the day with one tackle rotating in on the defensive line. The Texas A&M freshman has primarily played defensive end this season.

Walter Nolen – 25 snaps

Nolen played in 25 snaps but left the game late with injury. On the day, he recorded one tackle. The top-ranked recruit in the 2022 recruiting class has struggled with injuries through his freshman season at Texas A&M, but is coming into his own and living up to the hype in the snaps he’s played.

Malick Sylla – 4 snaps

Another true freshman making his debut, Sylla appeared in four snaps at defensive end but didn’t record any stats.

Jacoby Mathews – 1 snap

The freshman safety played in just one snap on Saturday, as the Aggies hardly rotated defensive backs down the stretch in the loss. Expect to see more of Mathews, and fellow freshman safety Bryce Anderson moving forward.
