Tulane wide receiver Khai Prean has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. Prean began his career at LSU.

Prean did not record any stats for the Tigers and Green Wave throughout his two-year career.

Prean was a three-star recruit in the 2023 recruiting class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, which is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. He was the No. 407 player and No. 14 ATH in his cycle.

As a senior at St. James High School, he caught 61 passes for 1,097 yards and 14 touchdowns. He averaged 18.0 yards per catch during that stretch. His status as an athlete comes from his near 1,000-yard rushing season as a sophomore at Ascension Catholic before transferring to St. James as a senior.

Prean was a standout two-sport athlete during his high school career as well. A track & field athlete, he ran a career-best 10.94 in the 100 meter and 21.7 in the 200 meter.

According to his On3 recruiting profile, Prean committed to LSU out of high school over the likes of Auburn, Tennessee, Florida State and Michigan. Prean redshirtted during his single season in Baton Rouge, meaning he will have at least three seasons of eligibility remaining to play for the school he eventually transfers into.

During his time at Tulane, the Green Wave finished 9-5 overall, making an appearance in the Gasparilla Bowl against Florida. Under head coach Jon Sumrall, they began the season 9-2 before losing the final three games of the season. As an LSU Tiger, they finished 10-3 and made an appearance in the ReliaQuest Bowl with Prean on the roster.

The portal officially opened on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024. More than 2,800 FBS scholarship players entered their names into the NCAA’s transfer database during the 2023-24 school year. Removing those who withdrew or went pro, the final total sat at 2,707 transfers. That means roughly 25 percent of all FBS scholarship players hit free agency in one year, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.
