Tulsa co-offensive coordinator Ty Darlington arrested for suspected DUI

Tulsa co-offensive coordinator Ty Darlington was arrested on Saturday for suspected DUI. Darlington is entering his first season with the program and will also serve as the tight ends coach. The incident did occur in Tulsa as Darlington was stopped by police while driving past an unrelated car accident.
“Authorities said an officer at the scene called out to everyone to run to ensure nobody was hit by the approaching car,” FOX23 in Tulsa said. “Officers then reported the driver of the car slammed on their brakes and barely managed to avoid hitting a patrol car. The officers said the driver responded to their commands to stop and when an officer approached the car, he reported seeing an open can in the cup holder with the word “brewery” on it that he was later able to confirm was a beer can.”
Darlington spent his college playing days in Norman with the Oklahoma Sooners. His eligibility ran up following the 2015 season, one where he was named first-team All-Big 12 for his play on the offensive line. However, nothing came together with the NFL.
The Tennessee Titans signed Darlington as an undrafted free agent ahead of the 2016 season. He was not able to make the team, though, and decided to retire from football. Darlington moved back into a role with the Sooners, first inside the athletic department. He then was an offensive analyst from 2017-2019 before spending two years as a graduate assistant.
Incarnate Word was the first school to give Darlington an opportunity as an on-field coach. Similar to one of his roles now, Darlington coached tight ends in San Antonio during the 2023 season. The Cardinals then moved him to the offensive line before this position with Tulsa became available.

“Officers then stated Darlington was arrested for a suspected DUI after he went through several field sobriety tests,” the report from FOX23 said in their report. “Jenks Police said Darlington agreed to take a breathalyzer test, but the results of that test have not yet been released.
Tulsa will open its season on Aug. 30 with a home game against Abilene Christian. Most Golden Hurricane fans will circle their calendar for Sept. 19 due to a massive in-state showdown against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. They will be looking to break a 10-game losing streak in the series, dating back to 1999.
“We are aware of the situation and are still gathering all the information,” Tulsa said in a statement to FOX23.
