Twelve rising star coaches selected for NCMFC Coalition Academy
The National Coalition for Minority Football Coaches has selected 12 coaches for its second annual Coalition Academy, which pairs rising star minority coaches in position to garner head coaching interest in the near future with athletic directors for mentorship, networking and advocacy.
The coaches chosen for this year’s program are Tennessee defensive coordinator Tim Banks, Houston defensive coordinator Doug Belk, Carolina Panthers wide receivers coach Joe Dailey, Virginia offensive coordinator Des Kitchings, Boston College defensive coordinator Tem Lukabu, Kansas State cornerbacks coach Van Malone, Georgia running backs coach Dell McGee, Michigan offensive line coach Sherrone Moore, Howard head coach Larry Scott, Louisville offensive coordinator Lance Taylor, East Carolina inside receivers and tight ends coach Latrell Scott and USC defensive backs coach Donte Williams.

The athletic directors taking part are Tennessee State’s Mikki Allen, Alabama’s Greg Byrne, Virginia Tech’s Whit Babcock, Washington State’s Pat Chun, Washington’s Jen Cohen, TCU’s Jeremiah Donati, Ball State’s Beth Goetz, Auburn’s Allen Greene, Rice’s Joe Karlgaard, South Florida’s Michael Kelly, New Mexico’s Eddie Nunez and Missouri’s Desiree Reed-Francois.
The National Coalition for Minority Football Coaches was started in 2020 by Maryland head coach Mike Locksley. The 2021 Coalition Academy featured a group that included three coaches who were hired as head coaches — Marcus Freeman (Notre Dame), Tony Elliott (Virginia) and Jay Norvell, who left Nevada to take the head coaching job at Colorado State.
