Two-time Academy Award nominee Jonah Hill to play John Daly in biopic film

One of golf’s most fascinating, polarizing and iconic figures will be on the silver screen sometime soon as “Above The Line” has reported that Jonah Hill is set to produce — and star in — a biopic about John Daly.
According to the report, the film will cover “the excesses, scandals, and athletic achievements” of Daly, who won the 1991 PGA Championship and holds the moniker of “The Bad Boy of Golf.” Hill, the two-time Oscar nominee, will be playing Daly in the film.
Beyond golf, Daly is known for his love of Arkansas football — and athletics in general. His son, John Daly II, is currently on the Arkansas golf team like his father was. He has signed an NIL deal with Hooters, the chain restaurant that Daly has become synonymous with. He signs autographs outside the Hooters near Augusta National during the days leading up to and during The Masters.
Along with that facet of Daly’s long-cultivated image are his penchant for drinking and smoking cigarettes — reportedly once smoking 21 during a day at a tournament — preferring to behave more like a tailgater at an SEC football game than a stiff-lipped golfer. He also has a seemingly unquenchable thirst for Diet Coke and loves M&Ms.
Plus, he loves to wear some gaudy outfits. Pants with skulls on them, American flag pants, ultra-bright colors and insane patterns — and generally not a great eye for a clash.
Bad Boy of Golf, indeed.
Daly earned a joke ‘Top Gun’ callsign from Jon Hamm
John Daly and the Top Gun movie franchise have something in common — both have provided entertainment for multiple generations. Now, imagine a cross-over between the eccentric, bearded golfer and the action movie.
On Sunday, the world got some answers during the PGA Championship MegaCast with Joe Buck and Michael Collins on ESPN+, as Daly joined Top Gun: Maverick star Jon Hamm to shoot the breeze. Most importantly, Hamm revealed what Daly’s call sign would be if he was to make a cameo, piloting one of those fighter jets during the movie.

“My call sign in Top Gun 2 is Cyclone, thank you very much,” revealed Hamm. “And I feel like John Daly’s call sign would be heater.”
As the group erupted in laughter, Daly had the perfect response to Hamm’s gracious honor.
“I love America,” responded the giddy golfer.
Now piloting one of those fighter jets seems like a thrill, but what about playing in a major golf tournament while slugging down 12 Diet Cokes, six bags of peanut M&Ms and smoking 21 cigarettes? That’s what Daly did last Thursday during his round, proving he’s the eighth wonder of the world.
Still, even the magic elixir founded by Daly wouldn’t give him the unmitigated gall to hop in one of the Top Gun jets.
“Nope. .. Sorry. I’m not getting on the Jet. .. There’s no way I’m getting on that thing,” responded Daly.
