Ty Davis burst on the scene this season as his Mountain Brook High (AL) team went 26-8, and the 6-foot-3 point guard averaged 18.2 points and 6.0 assists per game. Davis was named Alabama 6A all-state.

“I’m a guy that likes to come out being aggressive and reading off of that,” Davis told On3. “Whether the game calls for me to find my teammates or attack myself, I always like to start off being aggressive. I pride myself on making the right play for my team. Many college coaches are recruiting me to think my vision, passing, and IQ is my biggest asset on the court, but I also have deep range and can get to the rack at will. I try to play at my pace and not let the defense speed me up. I like watching Austin Reaves. Steph and Luka, too. I love taking stuff from their games.”

On3 caught up with Ty Davis recently to get a full update on his recruitment.

Davis talks Oregon official

“I visited Oregon last week,” Davis said. “That is the only official I’ve been on so far.”

Oregon: “The visit was amazing. The most memorable part of the trip was probably how much time Coach (Dana) Altman spent with us and how the whole staff was really invested in us the whole time. They see me fitting into the combo guard role, similar to how they played Casey Benson years ago by having me play on and off the ball.

“The facilities are crazy nice out there, in every aspect. From the arena to the locker and film rooms to the practice facility, to the training and weight room, to all the recovery they have. It’s all unbelievable. The city is also a great college town. You can tell everyone there loves supporting Oregon basketball.”

Davis talks visits

“Right now, I have a Northwestern official set up for June 20-22nd,” Davis said. “I’m also going to set one up with Creighton. Three other schools I’ve been talking to about possibly visiting are Virginia Tech, Tennessee, and West Virginia.”

Northwestern: “First off, just coming off the great year they had this year, it seems the program is on an incline and obviously at its peak in program history. That is very appealing. They value skilled players who can really shoot the ball, and I really like that about them as well. What’s stood out a lot is how quickly they have prioritized me, with Coach (Talor) Battle and (Chris) Collins hitting me up all the time.”

Creighton: “I also like how they have prioritized me so quickly. Coach (Jalen) Courtney-Williams, (Ryan) Miller, and Coach (Greg) Mcdermott have done a great job recruiting me. I love how they play. They play very fast and have been one of the top teams in the Big East for years. Their winning tradition over the past couple of years is very appealing.”

West Virginia: “Coach (Ron) Everhart called from WVU saying he loved watching me over the spring and wants to get me on the phone with Coach (Bob) Huggins over the next week or so. Obviously, Coach Huggins is a Hall of Fame coach, so that speaks for itself.”

Tennessee: “Coach GP (Gregg Polinsky) has watched me during the high school season and this spring. He’s a great coach with a lot of experience, and Coach (Rick) Barnes is coming to watch in person on the 16th and 17th of June. My grandparents are huge UT fans.”

Virginia Tech: “Coach (Kevin) Giltner has been on me since June 15th of last year. We have a great relationship, and Coach (Mike) Young is going to come to watch the 16th and 17th of June as well. They are an outstanding program, and I always love watching them play.”

In his words

“I’ll be looking for four things,” Ty Davis said. “A great staff, their style of play, a great school, and great teammates.

“For style of play, I like it when teams play fast and move the ball well. I also like teams that set a lot of ball screens and off-ball screens as well. What I mean by a great staff is a staff that is honest and straight up with you. Also, a staff where you are comfortable with every coach and not just the specific one recruiting you.”
