Tyleik Williams injury update: Ryan Day reveals latest on Ohio State DL
Tyleik Williams missed the last game for Ohio State’s in the non-conference this past weekend due to an injury. He’ll now still have a designation going into their conference opener on Saturday.
Ryan Day updated Williams’ status during his press conference on Tuesday. He labeled him as day-to-day with the Buckeyes’ defensive tackle being evaluated as he practiced today.
“Yeah, I think that – Tyleik is day-to-day,” said Day. “He’ll be out there today. We’ll see how it goes.”

Williams has nine tackles this year and is in a tie for the season-lead in sacks on their defense at 1.5 along with JT Tuimoloau. That included his outing in the season opener where he had seven tackles and a sack against Akron.
In his four-year collegiate career in Columbus, Williams has posted 99 tackles, 22 being for loss, and 10.5 sacks. He also has nine deflections with a forced fumble and a fumble recovery that went for a touchdown.
With Williams possibly out again depending on the week, Day is asking for more from their depth at defensive line. It could provide them more opportunity and, with it, he’s looking for better and more dependable play.
“I think, when you watch the film, it was good play but there needs to be more consistent play. So, you know, there’s a lot to learn from there and a lot to grow from,” Day said. ” I think, you know, everybody in that room will tell you there was some good plays but there needs to be more consistent play.”

“This is an opportunity to build depth in that room, you know. When Tyleik, you know, was out there, you know, he certainly makes his impact felt. Just like when we lost Donovan (Jackson) there for those couple weeks? You know, it was an opportunity,” said Day. “You learn about that when you have to step into that role. It’s different than when you’re playing 10 to 15 snaps in a backup capacity to when you’re the guy. So, good challenge for those guys.”
Williams may be out again for a second consecutive game this weekend against Michigan State in East Lansing. Even if he is, though, Day wants Ohio State’s defensive line to be just as productive, if not more so, in his absence.
