Texas Tech DL Tyree Wilson, a top NFL prospect, explains decision to transfer from Texas A&M
Texas Tech defensive lineman Tyree Wilson opened up why he transferred from Texas A&M prior to the end of his college career.
Wilson prepared for the NFL Draft and appeared at the Scouting Combine, but he looked back and the last few years while he was in school. There was nothing earth shattering about his move within the state.
But Wilson explained why he opted to play for the Red Raiders after two years under Jimbo Fisher.
“I went to Texas A&M first, you know, went there for two years … but just didn’t feel like that was home,” Wilson said on NFL Network to Peter Schrager. “Got in the portal and then (I built that relationship at) Texas Tech and was around great people and they helped me get me to this journey.”
Wilson played just one season with Texas A&M after his redshirt year. He played the last three seasons with Texas Tech and broke out in 2021 and ‘22.
Wilson finished his college career with 121 total tackles, 76 solo tackles, 32 tackles for loss, 17 sacks, one pass deflection, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble.
Wilson also discussed who he modeled his game after and there was no shortage of NFL stars.
“You know, there’s not just one player, so a couple players,” Wilson said. “You know, I look at Myles Garrett. You know, he’s disruptive, they double team him a lot and he still gets to the quarterback. J.J. Watt because you know, I can play inside and outside and have that versatility to the game and get double digit sacks in multiple years. And you know, Von Miller because he was great on the edge and just so pure with his game.”
