UConn transfer Corey Floyd Jr. has committed to Providence, he told On3.

“Coach (Ed) Cooley and his staff are all great people, not just within the basketball program but outside of it as well,” Floyd said to On3. “I love their style of play and I love how Cooley connects with all his players on a deeper level than just basketball. I feel my game is a perfect fit for Providence and I want to be a part of what that program is leading up to. With a good combination of younger and older guys this upcoming season, I think we will be able to have a similar year as last year’s team. My main focus is to gel with everyone on the team as quickly as possible so that our chemistry can be one of our strengths early on in the season.”

Ed Cooley has now landed four commitments via the transfer portal — South Carolina’s Devin Carter, La Salle’s Clifton Moore, and Louisville’s Noah Locke.

The 6-foot-4 shooting guard did not play for the Huskies this past season as he took a redshirt year. Floyd was originally a part of the 2022 recruiting class but reclassified and headed to Storrs a year early. He will have four years of eligibility remaining.

Floyd is a former four-star recruit and a native of Franklin, New Jersey. As a senior in high school at Roselle (N.J.) Catholic, Floyd averaged 16.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.7 assists.

Prior to choosing UConn, Floyd received offers from Auburn, Florida, Miami, Rutgers, Seton Hall, and even your very own Providence Friars.
