ESPN ranks the 14 undefeated teams in college football ahead of Week 7

There are just 14 teams in college football that remained undefeated going into Week 7 of the regular season.
But who is the best of those 14 teams? Well, ESPN thought to rank the remaining unbeaten squads at the halfway point of the regular season and there’s a new No. 1 in the country, or something like that.
Let’s dive into ESPN’s ranking of the 14 remaining undefeated teams in college football.
1. Michigan (6-0)

Here’s a poll where Michigan is actually No. 1 in the country. The schedule didn’t do the Wolverines any favors, but they remained at the top of the Big Ten.
It might not be a great schedule, but Michigan won its last three games over conference opponents. Plus, they were all blowouts. Michigan hasn’t played a close game all year.
2. Georgia (6-0)

Georgia returned to its dominant ways on Saturday with a 51-13 win over Kentucky. Perhaps the Bulldogs aren’t No. 1 on ESPN’s list due to its lack of dominance.
But, if we’re looking at both teams, Georgia and Michigan could very well be interchangeable. It seems like this is the projected national championship, as of now.
3. Ohio State (6-0)

The Buckeyes had a rough first half against Maryland but turned it up in the latter half and ran away from the Terrapins. Kyle McCord was able to air it out and seems to improve each week.
Right now, Ohio State could be neck and neck with Michigan going into the second half of the season. “The Game” this year will be absolutely fantastic when it returns to Ann Arbor.
4. Oregon (5-0)

Oregon rolled into the bye week with a high profile blowout win over Colorado and then dominated Stanford. The Ducks are really hard to stop on both sides of the ball.
Bo Nix is impressive under center and the defense is suffocating to opposing offenses. Get your popcorn ready for the road trip to play Washington this weekend.
5. Washington (5-0)

Speaking of Washington, the Huskies host Oregon this coming weekend. That’ll determine the pecking order in the Pac-12 at this point.
Plus, it’ll give the winner the inside track to the College Football Playoff. Michael Penix Jr. is firmly in the Heisman Trophy race and could have his “Heisman moment” in this one.
6. Oklahoma (6-0)

The Sooners made a huge statement with a win over rival Texas in Red River. Oklahoma has vastly improved over Brent Venables’ first year as head coach.
This team is different. The defense is fast and physical and Dillon Gabriel showed his big game prowess at quarterback. Firmly a playoff contender right now.

7. Penn State (5-0)

The Nittany Lions had a week off as well, but don’t forget about this team going down the stretch of the Big Ten season. Still, Penn State has to play Ohio State and Michigan so that’ll determine if the team is for real or just a tad behind.
Drew Allar and the offense can get humming, it just has to be consistent. This is a very physical football team so it could match up well against OSU and Michigan.
8. Florida State (5-0)

A lot of the undefeated teams were on a bye week in Week 6 but the Seminoles were back in action. Jordan Travis is leading his own Heisman campaign but the rest of the offense should be talked about.
Especially Trey Benson. The FSU ball carrier ran for 200 yards and two touchdowns in a dominant win over Virginia Tech. This is the team to beat in the ACC.
9. USC (6-0)

USC is still undefeated, but boy it’s been shaky lately. There have been too many close calls with the Trojans this year.
First, USC beat Colorado 48-41 after nearly blowing a 41-14 lead over the Buffaloes. Plus, it took three overtimes at home to take down Arizona. The bend but don’t break defense is going to break sometime soon right?
10. North Carolina (5-0)

The Tar Heels only got better with the return of wide receiver Tez Walker. Well, it was Walker’s debut after practicing with the team all year and finally being ruled eligible.
It’s just another weapon for Drake Maye and company. This Tar Heels crew is definitely going to give Florida State a run for its money. It should shake up for a fun race.
Rest of the undefeated teams
11. Louisville (6-0)
12. Air Force (5-0)
13. James Madison (5-0)
14. Liberty (5-0)
The latter three teams on this list aren’t in the Power Five, but they deserve respect for being in the ranks of the unbeaten to this point. Don’t rule out Louisville making a run in the ACC. The win over Notre Dame only solidified that this team is for real.
But make no mistake, teams on the list will eventually lose but who will get away unscathed?
