Florida fans were up in arms last weekend over seeming new parking restrictions that would have greatly altered the tailgating scene, but the University of Florida responded on Tuesday clearing up what amounted to a colossal misunderstanding.

The university has assured fans that all traditionally available parking will remain accessible for this week’s Texas A&M game and for the rest of the season.

“Last Saturday there was a miscommunication on game day that caused parking issues for some of you, and this has been resolved by campus,” a UF statement read. “As in the past, all parking that has traditionally been available for tailgating will remain available for the Texas A&M game and the remainder of the season.

“We can’t wait to see you and thank you for making The Swamp the most iconic and revered home field advantage in all of sports. Go Gators!”

Fans reacted jubilantly to the news on social media, though several pointed out the potentially ominous tone indicated by the words “the remainder of the season.” That doesn’t necessarily preclude changes going forward after 2024.

On Saturday for the team’s game against Samford, several tailgaters were hit with the news that their spots were no longer accessible for parking.

Yellow caution tape marked off several areas that are traditionally tailgating hotspots, particularly along the Lake Alice and Harmonic Woods areas on the west side of campus.

You can view some of the complaints below.

At least for now, though, Florida fans will be able to continue tailgating the way they have been for years, with a “miscommunication” the source of Saturday’s angst.
