Arkansas State’s Bryan Hodgson has emerged as the target of UNLV’s search and a deal is expected to come together, a source tells On3. The former Alabama assistant is 45-28 in his two seasons at Arkansas State.

UNLV fired Kevin Kruger after four seasons earlier this month. The Rebels finished 18-15 overall, 11-9 in conference play in 2024-25. Kruger went 76-55 overall in his four seasons in Vegas, but the Rebels never reached the NCAA tournament and finished in the top four of the Mountain West standings just once.

Under Hodgson, the Red Wolves won the regular season championship in the Sun Belt this season. In his first season at Arkansas State in 2023-24, Hodgson won more than 20 games and was one of five first-year coaches to lead their team to a 20-plus win inaugural season after taking over a 20-plus loss team.

The 37-year-old was named a finalist for the Joe B. Hall Award as the nation’s top first-year coach last season. Arkansas State’s 25-10 record this season was the most in program history.

Hodgson was with Nate Oats at Buffalo before the head coach was hired by the Crimson Tide. With Oats in Buffalo, the two helped the Bulls win three Mid-American Conference tournament titles. Hodgson’s other assistant coaching stops time at Midland College, Jamestown Community College and Fredonia State.

The coach previously helped Alabama land five-star recruits Brandon Miller and Jaden Bradley.
