Updated 2024 Big Ten Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings
The 2024 recruiting cycle is in full swing now and this cycle will look even more competitive in the Big Ten with UCLA and USC set to become official members in 2024.
It’s early in the cycle so while several of the top recruits have yet to commit, others have and some schools have to started to gather momentum.
Here’s the 2024 Big Ten On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings, as of Friday at 12 p.m. including the two programs who will be joining in the future.
*Note: Indiana and Nebraska currently have no commitments for their 2024 classes.
1. Ohio State (94.563)
1 five-star | 2 four-stars | 0 three-stars | 3 total recruits
Top Commit: Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, No. 2 in On3 Consensus
Summary: They may have lost a commitment from the nation’s top prospect but the Buckeyes still have the No. 2 recruit in the country committed in Smith. The No. 2 class right now, the Buckeyes also have a commitment from another top-100 player in interior offensive lineman Ian Moore.
2. Michigan State (91.757)
0 five-stars | 3 four-stars | 0 three-stars | 3 total recruits
Top Commit: River Rouge (Mich.) wide receiver Nick Marsh, No. 57 in On3 Consensus
Summary: Mel Tucker and co. have gotten off to a quick start this cycle with commitments from three players ranked in the top-300. Marsh is the highest-ranked player by the On3 Consensus, but cornerback Jamari Howard is the highest-ranked player for the Spartans in the 2024 On300 at No. 25.
3. Michigan (90.872)
0 five-stars | 5 four-stars | 0 three-stars | 7 total recruits
Top Commit: Harper Woods (Mich.) safety Jacob Oden, No. 173 in On3 Consensus
Summary: After back-to-back College Football Playoff appearances, the Wolverines had one of the more underwhelming classes in 2023 finishing No. 18 overall. They did finish No. 3 in the Big Ten though and while that’s where they stand now, landing a player like four-star quarterback Jadyn Davis would propel them up the board.
4. USC (89.976)
0 five-stars | 2 four-stars | 1 three-stars | 2 total recruits
Top Commit: Lake Oswego (Ore.) Lakeridge tight end Joey Olsen, No. 205 in On3 Consensus
Summary: Olsen and four-star wide receiver Jason Robinson are nice pieces to start with for the Trojans’ 2024 class. USC will be going after the nation’s top players but currently their biggest target is Five-Star Plus+ quarterback Dylan Raiola.
5. Penn State (89.577)
0 five-stars | 2 four-stars | 0 three-stars | 2 total recruits
Top Commit: Erie (Pa.) McDowell interior offensive lineman Cooper Cousins, No. 143 in On3 Consensus
Summary: The top two players in Penn State’s 2023 cycle were interior offensive linemen and that’s currently where they stand with Cousins at the top. Don’t expect that to last long though as the Nittany Lions are in play for several of the nation’s top players including defensive lineman Ernest Willor and athlete Quinton Martin.
6. Wisconsin (88.834)
0 five-stars | 2 four-stars | 1 three-stars | 3 total recruits
Top Commit: Algonquin (Ill.) Harry D Jacobs tight end Grant Stec, No. 194 in On3 Consensus
Summary: Luke Fickell’s first full class with Wisconsin is tight end heavy currently with commitments from Stec and in-state recruit Rob Booker. The Badgers did pick up a win on Christmas Eve landing four-star quarterback Mabrey Mettauer out of Texas.
7. Iowa (88.709)
0 five-stars | 1 four-stars | 4 three-stars | 6 total recruits
Top Commit: Winthrop (Iowa) East Buchanan interior offensive lineman Cody Fox, No. 172 in On3 Consensus
Summary: Fox has been a long-time commitment for the Hawkeyes committing to Iowa in June 2021. Outside Fox though, the Hawkeyes have no other players committed who are currently ranked in the top-300.

0 five-stars | 0 four-stars | 1 three-star | 1 recruit
Top Commit: Munich (Germany) linebacker Justin Okoronkwo, No. 497 in On3 Consensus
Summary: The Terrapins are off to an interesting start this cycle as their lone commitment so far plays in Germany. Okoronkwo is part of PPI Recruits, an international recruiting database and service and committed to the Terrapins last November.
10. UCLA (84.553)
0 five-stars | 1 four-stars | 0 three-star | 2 total recruits
Top Commit: Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei safety Khristian Dunbar-Hawkins, No. 216 in On3 Consensus
Summary: The Bruins had one of the biggest wins in the 2023 cycle flipping Five-Star Plus+ quarterback Dante Moore away from Oregon. They only have one four-star commitment now but that number should rise as they year progresses.
11. Purdue (84.250)
0 five-stars | 0 four-stars | 1 three-star | 1 recruit
Top Commit: Indianapolis (Ind.) Franklin Central cornerback Hudauri Hines, No. 566 in On3 Consensus
Summary: Ryan Walters landed a big in-state win when Hines committed to the Boilermakers on Jan. 29. He’ll likely look to recruit heavily in-state this cycle as most of Indiana’s top prospects have yet to commit outside of Ian Moore.
12. Minnesota (82.621)
0 five-stars | 0 four-stars | 1 three-stars | 2 total recruits
Top Commit: Detroit Lakes (Minn.) linebacker Mason Carrier, No. 539 in On3 Consensus
Summary: P.J. Fleck landed one of the top-3 players in Minnesota when Carrier committed to the Golden Gophers last June. Outside of that commitment though, Minnesota’s off to a slow start this cycle.
13. Illinois (80.083)
0 five-stars | 0 four-stars | 1 three-stars | 1 recruit
Top Commit: Mundelein (Ill.) Mundelein Cons offensive tackle Brandon Hansen, No. 771 in On3 Consensus
Summary: Illinois’ lone 2024 commitment up to this point committed to the Fighting Illini on Nov. 22. Last cycle Illinois finished with the No. 7 class in the Big Ten and a top-40 class overall.
14. Northwestern (77.750)
0 five-stars | 0 four-stars | 0 three-stars | 1 recruit
Top Commit: Northbrook (Ill.) Glenbrook North tight end Pat Schaller
Summary: The Wildcats finished with the No. 8 class in the Big Ten for the 2023 cycle but Pat Fitsgerald’s group is off to a slow start in 2024. Schaller is their lone commitment and is currently only ranked by one of the major recruiting outlets.
