Updated Coaches Poll Top 25 revealed following Week 3 of college football
Week 3 didn’t have as many big-time matchups as Week 2, but there was still plenty of action. After all 25 AP-ranked teams played over the weekend, including two matchups between ranked teams, the updated Coaches Poll Top 25 sees a few changes as the page turns from Week 3 to Week 4.
Week 3 was headlined by a pair of top 25 matchups. Miami took a trip to College Station to take on Texas A&M. Coming off of a disappointing loss in Week 2, the Aggies were in need of a major rebound. After making a change at quarterback, Texas A&M ultimately came away with a close 17-9 victory over Miami. Oregon also hosted BYU, and the Ducks had a great effort in a 41-20 victory.
Elsewhere in Week 3, Penn State put up a dominant performance against Auburn in a 41-12 win. Florida survived a scare against USF, winning 31-28.
Teams ranked in the top ten entering the weekend had an anxiety-free Saturday for the most part. All ten of those teams came away with a win on Saturday, with the margin of victory coming in at a whopping average of 40.1 points. Arkansas came back to win a close game over Missouri State 38-27, but every other team cruised.
Even with a shortage of prime matchups and not many upsets outside of Michigan State falling to Washington, the Coaches Poll has some significant movement. Here is a full look at the rankings coming out of Week 3.

There is a new No. 1 team in this week’s Coaches Poll, as Georgia and Alabama swap places with the Bulldogs sitting on top. In fact, Ohio State and Oklahoma were the only top ten teams to stand pat in this week’s rankings. Michigan and Clemson also swapped spots, as did USC and Oklahoma State. Kentucky and Arkansas rose one spot in the top ten, with Michigan State falling 12 spots to fall out of the top ten.
Miami was another big faller, dropping 12 spots. Washington rose 20 spots into the top 25, and Penn State rose eight spots into the top 15.
Washington was the lone team to join this week’s top 25, with Pittsburgh (previously No. 25) dropping out.
Pittsburgh (210 votes), Florida State (107), Appalachian State (68), Oregon State (57), Washington State, and Cincinnati (37) were among the teams receiving the most votes outside the top 25.
