Afterwards, one one of the most anticipated games of the season will start the year off, with Notre Dame traveling to Columbus to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes. As the Marcus Freeman era kicks off for the Fighting Irish, he’ll lead his team into battle against the same team he used to suit up for. It’s a story that you usually only see in the movie theaters.

However, Freeman isn’t the only one who’s returning home Saturday — Dan Lanning, who made his name as the defensive coordinator at Georgia — is now leading the Oregon Ducks as a head coach for the first time in his career. Coincidentally, he’ll be facing off against Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs, a game that will be plenty emotional as Georgia begins their hunt for back-to-back titles.
