The race for the 2021 season Heisman Trophy is heating up and the top of the leader board has narrowed after Week 7.

Alabama quarterback Bryce Young conceded the lead in the Heisman odds once again, caught in a two-way tie with Ole Miss dual-threat Matt Corral. Corral’s status for Week 8, however, is questionable, so Young could separate with his own big game versus Tennessee on Saturday.

Young threw for 348 yards and four touchdowns with a completion percentage of 71.4 versus Mississippi State.

The Rebels’ QB completed 21 of 38 pass attempts for 231 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in the win over the Vols. He also had a historic night on the ground, rushing 30 times for 195 yards, a career-high.

Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud still trails the SEC duo in the post-Week 7 odds after the Buckeyes rested on Saturday.

Michigan State star Kenneth Walker III is the only running back in the favorites group going into Week 8 of the 2021 season. Walker is three yards shy of 1,000 through seven games and he’s posted nine touchdowns. The Spartans have a full campaign running to get Walker the Heisman.

It’s too early to count out underdog quarterbacks Caleb Williams and Desmond Ridder. Both lead undefeated squads into Week 8. Ridder’s stats don’t jump off the page with just 1,444 yards and 16 touchdowns but he’s kept the ball safe with just two picks on the year. Williams hasn’t played the bulk of the snaps at QB for Oklahoma but the freshman has had an incredible two weeks. He threw for 295 yards and posted five scores with 78% completions versus TCU.
