The opening day of the NCAA Softball Tournament is in the books, and there is an action-packed slate of games scheduled to take place on Saturday.

At this point in the season, there are 64 teams alive. Those teams are split into 16 regional host sites, with four teams competing at each. There were two games in each regional on Friday, and the winners of those contests will face off to open Saturday’s action. The two losers from Friday’s games will also face off in an elimination game.

Following the first two games in each regional on Saturday, there will be another elimination contest. The winner of the first matchup will advance to Sunday’s championship, while the loser will face the winner of the elimination game. Whoever wins the final game of the day will advance to Sunday.

The NCAA Softball Tournament is double elimination, meaning that the team that advances to Sunday in the winner’s bracket will have to lose twice to be eliminated. Whoever advances out of the loser’s side will have to win twice on Sunday to advance further.

The winners of each regional will advance to Super Regionals next weekend, where teams will be facing off for a berth in the Women’s College World Series.
