Now that March has arrived, the recruiting world has officially turned its eyes toward the Class of 2023. With a bevy of notable quarterbacks, a geographic diversity among the nation’s top players and plenty of other notable storylines, the 2023 cycle is shaping up to be one of the most interesting in recent memory. And, per usual, the players at the top of the class will be among the most highly-recruited in the nation. The latest edition of On3’s 2023 Consensus rankings features 20 players with a coveted five-star rating. Next up on the countdown is the No. 13 overall prospect in the 2023 cycle, Chicago native and IMG Academy star receiver Carnell Tate.

Carnell Tate was previously ranked at the No. 13 spot in On3’s Consensus rankings. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Ohio State is the team to beat for Carnell Tate. The Buckeyes are listed with a 96.3% chance of landing Tate. Ohio State is followed by Notre Dame at 2.6%.

Carnell Tate transferred to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., before the start of his junior season. He attended Marist High School outside of Chicago as a freshman and sophomore. His sophomore season at Marist was wiped out because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Tate said the decision to transfer to IMG was made to help him get ready for big-time college football.

Carnell Tate Scouting Summary

“Carnell Tate is a  well-rounded receiver with technical savvy and a large catch radius. Has very long arms and big hands. Highly coordinated with the ability to track, adjust and high-point the football in contested situations. Has shown some encouraging route-running skills. Doubles as a dangerous return man due to his change of direction and open-field vision. A good athlete with play speed, though not quite as fast as some of his peers in a combine setting.” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings
