Updated schedule, bracket, TV heading into Day 5 of the 2023 Women's College World Series
The national semifinals are set after another round of elimination games at the Women’s College World Series. Only four teams remain, and the updated bracket and schedule is out for the rest of the tournament.
Sunday’s action started with a pitcher’s duel between Stanford and Washington. Star freshmen NiJaree Canady and Ruby Meylan put on a show in the circle, and Canady ultimately came out on top as the Cardinal pulled off the 1-0 victory. Kylie Chung had the game-winning hit in the sixth inning on an RBI single that brought home Taylor Gindlesperger.
Canady — the 2023 NFCA Freshman of the Year — spun a gem to keep Washington at bay. She held the Huskies to just one hit for the first time this year and struck out nine hitters en route to the complete game victory. Additionally, she never saw a 3-ball count and got 13 hitters into 0-2 counts.
That sent Stanford to the semifinal round, where it will take on No. 1 seed Oklahoma.
In the nightcap, Oklahoma State took on Tennessee as they tried to take the final semifinal spot. It was a scoreless game until the third inning when Zaida Puni hit a double that scored Kiki Milloy to give Tennessee a 1-0 lead. Then, Brylee Mesusan scored on an RBI single from Rylie West to put the Lady Vols up 2-0. That score held until the fifth inning when West stole second and Puni scored the Lady Vols’ third run of the game on a throwing error by the catcher.
Despite a sixth-inning home run from Morgyn Wynne, the Lady Vols still came out on top 3-1 to advance and eliminate the Cowgirls.

The semifinal round will continue double elimination play. Both Tennessee and Stanford bring losses into Saturday, and a victory for either of those teams would force an if-necessary game shortly after. The championship series will be a best of 3 set taking place June 7-9 at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
