Urban Meyer cautions Bill Belichick about getting into coaching college football
Urban Meyer made his feelings known regarding Bill Belichick potentially getting into the world of college football during an appearance on The Herd with Colin Cowherd.
The conversation regarding Belichick took on a new life once he interviewed with North Carolina earlier this week. Evidently, Meyer doesn’t seem to understand why the NFL legend would be interested in the Tar Heels, but it’s an interesting potential scenario nonetheless.
“I got to know him so well when I was at Florida. We became really good friends,” Meyer told Cowherd. “I’m like you, I’m like, ‘I just don’t know.’ For Coach Belichick to be sitting in his office — and this is what’s going on now, because I have many friends in the business. An agent shows up at your office, or a high school recruit, and they start demanding money from you. I’ve known Coach Belichick a long time. I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t do that. I’d have to say, ‘Get out of the office.’ You know, ‘Let’s get better grades. Take care of yourself a little better. Perform a little better. Then let’s have a chat.’
“So, God bless him. He’s 70 — I think he’s 70 years old or something and he still wants to keep going. So, God bless him, man. If he wants to do it.”

Alas, Belichick coached the New England Patriots from 2000-2023, leading the Patriots to six Super Bowl championships. The 72-year-old has never coached college football before, but he was obviously incredibly successful in the NFL.
Whether it be Belichick or someone else, North Carolina is searching for a replacement for Mack Brown, who was fired last month after his second stint leading the Tar Heels program. Brown went 44-33 in the past six seasons at North Carolina.
Time will tell if Belichick’s next coaching gig comes in the college ranks, or at the NFL level. Regardless, Urban Meyer is interested in seeing how it all unfolds, and he’ll be watching what his friend decides with a keen interest.
