Urban Meyer names his top-two disappointing teams of the 2022 season
Texas A&M and Notre Dame were supposed to be College Football Playoff contenders this season. Obviously that’s not the case anymore.
He didn’t mention any more on the Aggies, but former Ohio State head coach and current Fox Sports analyst Urban Meyer sounded off on why Fighting Irish fans shouldn’t feel like the 4-3 start to his first season in South Bend is the end of the world.
“I know you watch them and say, ‘this doesn’t look great,’ but Marcus Freeman will eventually get it, I know he will. Just be patient with him. He’s a first-time head coach at the University of Notre Dame – think about that,” Meyer said on Urban’s Take with Tim May. “I was a first-time coach at Bowling Green, and thank god we weren’t on TV all the time because the mistakes that are made in your first time as a head coach are very hard.”

Now 4-1 over its last five games, Notre Dame has somewhat found a rhythm under Freeman, and Meyer believes the best is yet to come.

Meyer still believes the future is bright for both programs, especially if the two schools continue to recruit the way they do – especially Texas A&M. It might just take some schematic adjustments based on personnel rather than Aggie head coach Jimbo Fisher’s comfortability.
“To say there’s not talent – every time I heard that, I’m like, ‘come on now, don’t go there,’ – of course there’s talent. It might be different talent than the system (they play in), but you have to work through,” Meyer said.
While the Irish are 4-1 in their last five, the Aggies haven’t won a game in October. With a matchup against No. 15 Ole Miss – who was undefeated until last week – this weekend, it’ll be that much harder the three-win Aggies to even make a bowl game with the second half of the season already upon us.
