Urban Meyer still believes in Clemson: 'I think they're going to win the ACC'
Urban Meyer is still a big believer in Clemson this season, despite the opening weekend blowout defeat at the hands of Georgia.
The reluctance to add via the transfer portal is everyone’s biggest talking point. Meyer noted that was the biggest issue moving forward.
Still, the former Ohio State and Florida coach likes Dabo Swinney’s crew to get it together.
“Clemson went shoot his shoe with the best team in the country, Georgia, at halftime. Then it was over,” Meyer said on Big Noon Kickoff, amid a lot of boos from the Michigan fans. “Here’s the difference, the Power Five teams, Power Four teams, the best four or five teams in the country …”
Meyer was cut off while the crew was in Ann Arbor, but finally got his point across and actually made a bold prediction about Clemson.

“The difference is the top rosters in the country have no weaknesses,” Meyer said. “You know why? After spring practice, you go like this and you get a free agent. Clemson hasn’t done that. They’re not one of the best four or five rosters. I still think they’re going to go to the playoffs. I think they’re going to win the ACC, but they’re not a national championship team … until you get the NIL and roster management going with the transfer portal.”

Clemson to turn it around?
Swinney spoke this week about wide receive Tyler Brown’s lack of touches and the coaching staff needing to do a better job of getting him involved, basically improving overall.
“We flunked in getting some guys the ball like we needed to. We didn’t get Tyler Brown the ball until the fourth quarter. That’s an F on us,” Swinney said. “That’s like not handing [Phil] Mafah the ball until the fourth quarter. We’ve gotta be better than that.”
In some ways, Swinney thinks his team needs to get back to the basics.
“Yeah, just foundational principles of what this program’s built on: effort, belief, physicality, toughness, how you play,” Swinney said. “How you play. It’s not where you play, when you play, who you play, what time you play. It’s how you play. And if you play the right way then good things will happen.”
