Former college football coach Urban Meyer recently took stock of some of the top quarterback competitions in the country over on the On3 Youtube Channel. Of course, Alabama and Ohio State just saw their QBs go No. 1 and No. 2 in the NFL Draft, so they obviously have replacements to find. But there’s also Georgia, who just lost the guy that won two straight national titles. Even Texas, who returns their starter, may have a competition depending on how Arch Manning performs upon arriving on campus.

So, several very high profile QB competitions are going on this summer. Right below, you can read Meyer’s take on all four of those races and why he thinks having multiple options under center is not the terrible dilemma some folks make it out to be.

“I think so, but I think Ohio State’s in great shape. You know, if someone would have won that hands down the other guy might have left. And, you know, I hear that. I remember people saying…if you have two quarterbacks, you don’t have one. I don’t agree with that at all. If you got two quarterbacks, you got two quarterbacks.

“The Alabama scenario is…you know, I haven’t studied that closely, but I’ve been reading about it, and that’s a precarious situation there. You certainly can’t get three ready to go, you know. You’re gonna have to narrow it down and especially if they’re young players. The one transfer is a very experienced guy.

“But I think Georgia and Ohio State are in very good positioning. I think Texas, you didn’t mention them, but, you know, don’t sleep on Texas this year. Man for man, roster against roster, it’s hard to say Texas doesn’t have the best roster in college football right now. Yeah, now they gotta play. It’s been a while since Texas has been good or elite, but their quarterback, I watched him live against Alabama before he got hurt, and they could have won that game. And we all know when he was at Ohio State. So, I think Georgia, Ohio State and Texas are in pretty good shape, yeah.”

There you have it from Coach Meyer. He says he’s perfectly fine with having two quarterbacks and reveals that Texas could be a sleeper pick for college football this coming year. Interesting stuff.
