Kirk Herbstreit sees a potential shootout between USC and Colorado but it’s going to be a tough matchup for the Buffaloes.

When Colorado hosts the Trojans, the team will welcome its Pac-12 foe into a raucous environment. However, USC’s defense, albeit still critiqued, will give Colorado fits.

Herbstreit broke down why, mostly due to USC’s opportunistic approach on defense.

“Well, I think their defense is creating turnovers, they’re giving up a lot of yards at this point, but a lot of people think this could be a potential shootout,” Herbstreit said on SportsCenter. “You know if Colorado is to compete and hang in this game, I see it being a tough matchup for them. I think Caleb Williams is going to have a monster day against that defense, most quarterbacks have, especially coming off of that Oregon game.

“Now it’s back home, they got embarrassed last week in Eugene so you know Colorado will be fired up, but man this is a big opportunity.”

Herbstreit also mentioned how USC might be overlooked right now due to other teams in the Pac-12 putting on shows lately.

“I feel like USC, as good as they are ranked in the top 10, I feel like they’ve still been put on the backburner,” Herbstreit said. “I just don’t think they’re getting a lot of attention. They kind of stepped into obviously a showcase game. Anybody who plays Colorado seems like it’s a showcase game.

“So I think they’ll remind a lot of college football fans how good Caleb Williams is and how good USC is. They’re gonna give up yards to Shedeur Sanders. But I think creating turnovers or getting sacks will be the story of SC’ defense in that game.”

USC-Colorado a tough matchup for Buffaloes

Deion Sanders recently broke down why USC and Williams are very dangerous.

“The kid is unbelievable,” Sanders said. “He extends plays. He has a grasp on his offense. It almost looks like they’re just toying with people. They have a tremendous offensive coordinator. He’s protected pretty well, but he still has escapability.

“He keeps his eyes down field. He doesn’t look to run. He looks to throw the ball. They have some guys in the slot. They have some guys on the outside, as well. But they have some guys in the slot that can make it happen. They’re playmakers.”

Through the first four games of the season, Williams is once again putting up Heisman-like numbers. He passed for 1,200 yards and 15 touchdowns so far this year, while adding three scores on the ground.
