USC gaining momentum with 2024 No. 2 QB DJ Lagway

For most of this fall, Florida has been considered one of the top two schools for Willis (Texas) 2024 four-star QB DJ Lagway. The Gators, along with Clemson, have made a strong impression with On3’s No. 2 quarterback in the junior class.
But with his commitment a little less than a week away, there’s a new threat to Billy Napier and his program: USC.
The Trojans hosted Lagway over the weekend for their win over rival UCLA, and the atmosphere in Los Angeles — as well as the play of Heisman favorite Caleb Williams — has given the signal-caller a lot to think about.
According to On3 national recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman, USC has built some momentum ahead of Lagway’s expected announcement on December 7.

“You have to talk about the relationship with Lincoln Riley. That relationship has spanned among the best relationships he has with a head coach, along with Dabo Swinney. Getting him on campus to see Caleb Williams — and we’ve talked about the development of Jalen Hurts — and to see Williams have a Heisman moment in a big game and then hear Lincoln Riley say, ‘You could be next.’ … That really opened the eyes of him and his family.
“You know, Florida has given them a lot to think about, and certainly the relationships loom large, but USC has momentum,” Spiegelman said Thursday during On3’s Inside Scoop recruiting show. “And DJ is, he’s keen on observations and USC has a lot of momentum in college football right now.”
DJ Lagway Scouting Summary
“Strong-armed quarterback prospect who possesses a thicker build with solid measurables for the position. Checked in at 6-foot-2.3 and 225 pounds during the camp circuit prior to his junior season. Has the arm strength to make throws at every level of the field, including ones from the far hash. Efficient with his movements in the pocket and comfortable working outside the pocket. Arm talent shines when forced to throw from multiple arm slots or off-platform. Will need to continue progressing with his accuracy as a passer – completed 55 percent of his passes as a sophomore at under 7 yards per attempt. A touted two-sport athlete who has also received multiple Power Five offers as a baseball player.” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings
