Utah WR signee Tavian McNair announces he will play elsewhere
After signing with Utah earlier this month, Centennial (Nev.) three-star wide receiver Tavian McNair announced on Saturday that he will not suit up for the Utes and has reopened his recruitment.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder committed to Kyle Whittingham and Co. in July over offers from Kansas, Cal, UNLV, Colorado State and others. And he signed a financial aid agreement with the Utes on December 5, inking himself in their class. But after talking to his family, he has decided to go in a different direction.
“I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank Coach Whittingham, Coach Simon and the rest of new offensive staff as well as Coach Bumphis, Coach Whitted, Coach Harding, Coach Ganther for giving me the opportunity and offering me a scholarship to attend the University of Utah,” he posted on Twitter. “After taking some time and praying and talking with my family, we decided that it’s best to go in a different direction, I’m grateful for this process and everything I’ve learned along the way. I have nothing but respect for everyone at Utah and the Ute community and I wish them nothing but the best. I’m looking forward to what God has in store for me and my family as well. Thank you for your continued support.”
