UVA receiver Lavel Davis among multiple victims killed in shooting at University of Virginia on Sunday night
More information continues to arise from the University of Virginia following Sunday night’s tragic shooting that took the lives of at least three individuals and injured multiple others.
At the time of the incident, former Virginia football player and UVA student Chris Jones was named as the suspect of the tragic act. On Monday morning, Virginia linebacker D’Sean Perry was reported as one of the three victims killed in the shooting.
Now, UVA wide receiver Lavel Davis has been reported as another victim of the shooting. Davis was part of the 2020 recruiting class.
Sean Lampkin, the cousin of Davis, revealed the tragic news on Monday morning.
Davis caught 20 passes for 515 yards and five touchdowns as a freshman in 2020, averaging 25.8 yards per reception. Through eight games this season, he had 16 receptions for 371 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 23.2 yards per catch.
Davis is a Dorchester, South Carolina native and he played at Woodland High School prior to coming to Virginia. Mathis Burnette, the former head coach at Woodland, shared an emotional message on Twitter Monday morning regarding Davis.

“There are no words to express the grief that the Woodland community is feeling right now,” Burnette said. “Everything about Lavel Davis was first class and the world is a sadder place because he is gone. Prayers for everyone in the Davis family and the Woodland Community.”
The shooting occurred at around 10:30 p.m. ET on Sunday night on the University of Virginia campus. As of Monday morning, Jones was still at large and had not been located by authorities.
UVA president Jim Ryan released a statement early on Monday morning after the shooting, where he expressed his devastation for this tragic incident.
“This is a message any leader hopes never to have to send, and I am devastated that this violence has visited the University of Virginia,” Ryan said. “This is a traumatic incident for everyone in our community, and we have cancelled classes for today (Monday, Nov. 14).”
