Richard Pitino has dipped into the NCAA transfer portal and made another splash. Valparaiso guard All Wright has committed to Xavier, On3’s Joe Tipton reports. Wright was among one of the best players available at the position and now heads to Cincinnati to continue his college basketball career.

Per the On3 Industry Transfer Portal Rankings, Wright was the No. 100 overall player to enter this cycle. Wright is listed as a combo guard and ranked No. 7 at the position. Three years of eligibility remain too, meaning Xavier could have him inside the program for multiple seasons.

Wright just wrapped up a successful freshman campaign where he was named Missouri Valley Conference Rookie of the Year. He averaged 15.5 points per game while shooting 40.8% from the field and 38.3% from three. A reliable free throw shooter is on the way too, making 80.5% from the charity stripe on 3.5 attempts per game.

This is the second commitment Xavier has snagged out of the transfer portal. Pitino was able to bring Filip Borovicanin with him from New Mexico. Borovicanin is a forward, filling out different roster spots with Wright now on board.

More is certainly on the way for the Musketeers. A lot of last season’s roster has entered the portal itself and with high school prospects opening up their recruitments, Xavier is almost starting from scratch.

Xavier entering new era under head coach Richard Pitino

For the second time in recent years, Xavier was having to move on from Sean Miller. Another high-major program was able to hire the head coach away. Formerly, it was Arizona but this go-round, the Texas Longhorns brought Miller to the 40 Acres.

Xavier responded well last time by hiring Chris Mack. They are hoping for even better results with Pitino joining the program from New Mexico. After all, having his last name lead a Big East program just feels right.

Pitino made two straight NCAA Tournaments with the Lobos, even recently taking down UCLA to advance to the second round. You can add a regular season championship in 2025 and Mountain West Touranment title in 2024 for an auotmatic berth.

There is a bit of a drought for Xavier when it comes to conference titles, of any kind. The 2018 Big East regular season championship was the program’s last. To find the last time they won a conference touranment, they were members of the A-10 back in 2006.
