According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Vanderbilt forward JaQualon Roberts has entered the NCAA transfer portal. Roberts spent two years with the program but is now searching for a new home. A loss for the Commodores after having a successful 2024-2025 season.

Roberts played high school basketball at Bloomington (IN) Bloomington North, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 230 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Recruited under the old regime, Roberts saw his role deteriorate under Mark Byington. A total of 21 games played saw no starts and a nightly appearance of under five minutes per game. Roberts averaged 1.0 points and grabbed 0.8 rebounds.

Moving on from Vanderbilt for Roberts comes not too long after an NCAA Tournament exit. A postseason appearance was something the Commodores have been missing in recent years. Getting into the field was a big accomplishment and despite minimal, Roberts still played a role.

Unfortunately, St. Mary’s was on the winning end of the first-round matchup. Alabama was waiting on the other side but Vanderbilt was not able to produce an all-SEC second round game.

Roberts still has some untapped potential, hoping to unlock it at his next spot. Now on the open market, the journey to find his next destination has begun.

Vanderbilt loses guard to the NCAA transfer portal

Vanderbilt guard Karris Bilal plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, On3’s Joe Tipton confirmed. The Commodores’ season came to an end Friday with a loss to Saint Mary’s in the NCAA Tournament.

Bilal did not make an appearance at Vanderbilt this past season as a true freshman. The Commodores put together an impressive first season under Mark Byington to make the NCAA Tournament, although things ended Friday afternoon with a first-round loss to St. Mary’s.

Bilal played high school basketball at Atlanta (Ga.) Riverwood, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 269 overall player and No. 43-ranked point guard from the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, an equally weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
