Vanderbilt guard Jason Edwards enters NCAA transfer portal

Vanderbilt guard Jason Edwards has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Joe Tipton. Edwards was the Commodores’ leading scorer this past season, averaging 17.0 points per game.

Edwards spent just one season in Nashville before hitting the portal, but made his mark on the program while he was there. He played in 33 of Vanderbilt’s games this season, starting 24 of them. He scored in double figures 31 times for the Commodores over that span.

His most impressive game as a Commodore came against TCU during a non-conference matchup on Dec. 8. He scored 30 points on 8 of 16 shooting, 13 of which came from the free throw line. Edwards would go on to score at least 20 points in 10 matchups.

Most recently, Edwards logged 18 points, five rebounds and three assists during his final game playing for Vanderbilt. It was a loss to Saint Mary’s during the first round of the NCAA Tournament. He was also a potent threat during the Commodores’ lone game during the SEC Tournament, a loss to the Texas Longhorns.

Before arriving on campus in Nashville, Edwards was a star for North Texas as a true freshman. During his first season at the collegiate level, Edwards averaged 19.1 points per game for the Mean Green. As a true freshman, he scored at least 30 points on five different occasions. He scored a career-high 37 points during a 70-56 win over Tulane.

Before college, Edwards was unranked in the On3 Industry Rankings. The On3 Industry Ranking is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services.

Vanderbilt forward JaQualon Roberts enters NCAA transfer portal

According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Vanderbilt forward JaQualon Roberts has entered the NCAA transfer portal. Roberts spent two years with the program but is now searching for a new home. A loss for the Commodores after having a successful 2024-2025 season.

Roberts played high school basketball at Bloomington (IN) Bloomington North, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 230 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Recruited under the old regime, Roberts saw his role deteriorate under Mark Byington. A total of 21 games played saw no starts and a nightly appearance of under five minutes per game. Roberts averaged 1.0 points and grabbed 0.8 rebounds.
