Mike Hollins, a Virginia running back who was one of the two Cavaliers players taken to the hospital after the Sunday night shooting that left three players, linebacker D’Sean Perry and wide receivers Lavel Davis and Devin Chandler, dead.

During a vigil on UVA’s campus Monday night, a Virginia football player gave an update, via Sports Illustrated’s Ross Dellenger, on Hollins, who is recovering from surgery which was performed on him Monday to remove one bullet from his stomach.

Update: Hollins is in critical condition following surgery. He is currently on a ventilator and is set to undergo a second procedure Tuesday, per a separate report from Dellenger.

“Be with Mike as he fights,” the unidentified Virginia player prayed. “Put your hands of healing over him, Lord.”

According to the Washington Post, the father of Hollins, Michael Hollins Jr., confirmed earlier in the day that his son was wounded in the incident. He told the Washington Post that his son was shot in the back and a bullet was lodged in his stomach, but that he was in stable condition on Monday morning.

“The doctors said he’s going to recover,” the elder Hollins said. “They said because of his age and physical condition, he’s doing exceptionally well.”

Hollins is in his fourth season at Virginia. Through nine games this season, he has rushed 53 times for 215 yards and two touchdowns, and he has added eight receptions for 114 additional yards.

More details emerge on Sunday night shooting at University of Virginia

Following Sunday night’s unthinkable tragedy at the University of Virginia, UVA officials held a news conference at 11:00 a.m. ET on Monday morning to provide more details. University of Virginia President Jim Ryan was joined by UVA Police Chief Tim Longo, among others, to address the shooting that took the lives of three students and injured two others.

During the news conference, Tim Longo revealed that Chris Jones, the culprit of the shooting, was in custody. Jones is a former Virginia running back that was on the team during the 2018 season.

Longo also revealed that the shooting took place on a charter bus while on the way back to the University of Virginia campus. Two victims were killed on the bus; UVA football wide receiver Devin Chandler and linebacker D’Sean Perry

“The bodies of Devin and D’Sean, as President Ryan indicated, were found inside a charter bus, where they had been for the day, enjoying a school activity, having a meal together, and then coming back to our Grounds and someone amongst them chose to do an act of violence,” Longo said.

“We found them dead inside that bus.”

Virginia wide receiver Lavel Davis was also shot during this incident, and he later died due to his injuries after being transported to the UVA medical center.

During the news conference, Longo also revealed that Jones is being charged with three counts of second-degree murder, in addition to three counts of using a handgun in commission of a felony. Longo said that those charges have already been reviewed by a judicial officer.

It was also revealed that during this fall, specifically September of 2022, Jones “came to the attention” of the UVA threat assessment team after the report of Jones making a comment about “possessing a gun” to a third-party individual. No threat was made with that report, and attempts were made to contact Jones to no avail. He also had a concealed weapons violation outside of Charlottesville in February of 2021, according to Longo.

As of the time of this writing, the identities of the two victims wounded in the shooting have not yet been released. Longo said that they would not be revealing those identities at this time, but did add that one of the wounded victims is in critical condition, while the other is in good condition.
