Head coach Brent Pry is trying to move on the from Week 1 loss to Vanderbilt. A tough one for Virginia Tech after coming back from a multi-score deficit in Nashville before losing in overtime. Not how anybody in Blacksburg wanted to begin a season full of anticipation.

The Virginia Tech Football social media team still has its focus on the Vanderbilt game. Despite the Hokies facing Marshall on Saturday in a Week 2 matchup, the first quarter score graphic told us differently on social media.

Being up 7-0 through one in the positive as the Hokies hope to earn its first win of the 2024 season. The negative? The opposing logo is Vanderbilt’s, not Marshall. A simple mess-up from the social media team but still a funny one.

As long as everything remains well on the field, Virginia Tech will live with the social media mistakes. Priority No. 1 is taking down Marshall and getting back to .500. There is still a lot to play for moving forward but losing another nonconference game would be quite detrimental.

Clark Lea celebrating Virginia Tech win with Cheez-Its

This week Clark Lea welcomed a new, fun problem: What to do with all those Cheez-Its?

With Vanderbilt being named the Cheez-It national team of the week by the Football Writers Association of America, Lea was gifted a plethora of the cheesy crackers. Too many for him to readily know what to do with them, for that matter.

“Well I’ve got about 30 boxes of Cheez-Its out there in the lobby so I’ve gotta figure out how I’m going to eat all of them,” Lea said at his weekly press conference, to laughs from the room.

But the honor of being the national team of the week, and the spotlight being on Vanderbilt after an overtime win, is something Lea wants his team to savor — and begin to expect more and more.
