Virginia transfer guard Isaac McKneely commits to Louisville

Virginia transfer guard Isaac McKneely has committed to Louisville out of the NCAA Transfer Portal, he announced on Thursday.
The 6’4 guard by way of Poca (W.V.) played in 97 career games over his three years in Charlottesville, averaging 10.9 points and 2.6 rebounds per contest. His best season came in 2024-25 though, where he was the ‘Hoos leading scorer at 14.0 points per game. McKneely also shot 41% from behind the arc on just over 7 attempts per game.
He signed with Virginia as a top-75 national recruit in the Class of 2022 under former head coach Tony Bennett. But with Bennett’s abrupt departure before the season, he has found a new home for his final year of eligibility.
McKneely will have one year of eligibility left with the Cardinals. He is the third addition out of the portal for Pat Kelsey and Co. in the past week, joining Kennesaw State guard Adrian Wooley and Xavier guard Ryan Conwell. All three rank among the top 20 transfers in the On3 Industry Transfer Portal Rankings.
Louisville, which is coming off a 27-8 campaign in 2024, is expected to field one of the sport’s most talented rosters next season. In addition to the three portal additions, they also signed top-10 overall recruit Mikel Brown Jr. and are expected to return sophomore big James Scott, forward Kasean Pryor and talented freshman Khani Rooths.
According to reporting from On3’s Pete Nakos, the Cardinals are expected to spend somewhere in the range of $8-10 million on their 2025-26 roster, which would be among the highest team payrolls in all of college basketball.
