VJ Edgecombe is a name that has been trending upwards over the last few months. He made his On3 rankings debut a couple of weeks ago, landing as the No. 77 overall prospect in the 2024 class.

The high-flying, ultra-athletic 6-foot-6 wing is originally from the Bahamas, before moving to Florida a few years ago. However, over the summer, Edgecombe left the warm weather and transferred to Long Island Lutheran in Glen Head, New York to play a national schedule.

He discussed that move, his game, and his early recruitment with On3 over the weekend at the annual Hoophall Classic.

The move to Long Island Lutheran and early recruitment

“It’s been great,” Edgecombe said of his move to LuHi. “It’s a very welcoming school. Everybody knows each other. It’s been great.”

Edgecombe currently holds offers from Mississippi State, Seton Hall, St. John’s, Georgia Tech, College of Charleston, and North Texas. Programs like Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan have also began to show interest.

The junior has yet to take any college visits but will likely do so in the coming months.

“I haven’t thought about it yet,” he said. “I’ll probably wait until after the season.”

Edgecombe breaks down his game

“My strengths are attacking, facilitating, getting my teammates involved, and shooting off the catch,” Edgecombe says.

There are several aspects of his game that he would like to improve.

“Ball handling, being more poised, shooting off the dribble, and just getting more reps with my shot.”

Edgecombe will be playing with Southeast Elite on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit this summer. He is definitely someone to keep tabs on and it will be exciting to see how he continues to develop.
