2024 OL Waltclaire Flynn picks up 'dream offer'
Grayson (Ga.) High School sophomore Waltclaire Flynn Jr. already has his “dream offer.” Georgia offered the 6-foot-3, 280-pound interior offensive lineman last weekend.
Flynn helped powerhouse Grayson to the Class 7A state championship as a freshman starter in 2020. He was named an Under-Armour and Adidas freshman All-American for his efforts.
During his visit to Athens this past Saturday, Flynn and his family were pulled aside by Georgia offensive line coach Matt Luke. That was when he was informed Georgia was extending a scholarship offer.
Flynn said that Luke admitted he doesn’t usually offer players this young. In his four visits to the campus, Flynn has already started building a strong relationship with Luke. As a result, the offer from the Bulldogs came a little early.
Waltclaire Flynn a lifelong Georgia fan
Flynn has been a big supporter of Georgia his entire life.
“It’s Georgia,” Flynn said. “I’ve always been a big fan of Georgia. It’s always been a dream to play there… They send people to the league, and they always have great coaches. They have a tradition of winning.”
Flynn has had a photo of himself and Georgia head coach Kirby Smart saved since he was in the sixth grade. He included the photo in his scholarship announcement via his Twitter account on Saturday.
The smaller version of Flynn stands next to Smart near midfield at Sanford Stadium. Both Smart and Flynn share business-like facial expressions with a handshake connecting them.
He doubts Smart remembers the photo, but Flynn says he remembers the day.
It was a football camp hosted by Smart and the Bulldogs. At the time it was Smart that was the unknown in the eyes of the promising sixth grader.
“At the time, I didn’t know anything about Kirby Smart,” Flynn said. “I didn’t know who the head coach was. Now that I’ve grown, I’ve been able to learn about him and get to know him and stuff. That’s been really cool.”
Flynn has spent a lot of time in Athens. He attended the G Day game back in May as a fan. For Flynn, every time he gets on campus, his admiration for the school grows a little more.
“I like being there,” Flynn said. “Every time that I go there it gives me that family vibe. I just love being there.”

Florida schools intriguing Waltclaire Flynn
Flynn has had offers from both Miami and Florida State since his freshman school year ended. Florida State was the first school to offer him and then Miami joined the race on May 4.
Flynn has already been on Florida State’s campus quite a bit. He attended FSU’s spring scrimmage as a fan. Flynn then made a trip to Tallahassee for a camp on June 6. He then visited again on July 25.
Both Miami and Florida stand out for Flynn, too.
“I like Florida State because I see what they’re building,” Flynn said. “They’re bringing that swagger back. Both Florida State and Miami are bringing the swagger back.”
The top ranked-player in Georgia the On3 2022 rankings is Florida State commit Travis Hunter. Flynn has watched from afar how Hunter has led the charge for the Florida State recruiting class. Flynn has also bumped into Hunter a few times on campus.
“Some people are half and half, but Travis Hunter doesn’t visit any schools,” Flynn said. “Every time I go to Florida State, he’s at Florida State. It’s like he lives there or something.”
Sophomore year repeat?
Flynn has a championship ring at Georgia’s highest classification already. He hopes to add another one in 2021. Grayson will be talented once again.
Next to Flynn on the offensive line is new Georgia commit Griffin Scroggs. Flynn feels he will be more comfortable in 2021. He’ll be able to cut loose a bit.
“Last year, I was just a pup,” Flynn said. “I feel like I’ve grown into a better player. Last year, I was just trying not to mess up and lose my starting position. Now that I’m more comfortable, I feel I can be into the game now.”
