4-star safety Gavin Day to take official visit to Washington this weekend

Washington is emerging in the recruitment of Las Vegas Faith Lutheran four-star safety Gavin Day.
Earlier this month, UW defensive coordinator Ryan Walters offered the Sin City blue-chipper. Last week, safeties coach Taylor Mays visited Day. This weekend, Day will head up to Seattle and take an official visit to the Big Ten program.
The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder has had other contenders develop in his process, too. Arizona was labeled as the top school earlier this month when Day spoke with On3’s Chad Simmons. The Wildcats are in line for a June official visit, as is Iowa and Utah.
Making a splash on OVs will be crucial for Day as he works to make a decision. A commitment could be coming up sooner rather than later, too.
“In late June or early in July, I will commit,” Day said earlier this month. “Official visits will be pretty huge for me. It will the school’s last chance to push for me, so I expect them to put it all on the table. The visits will be fun, but very important.
“Relationship with the staff, having a chance to play early and playing for a staff who can make me a better young man and player will be what it comes down to.”
Washington has promptly thrust itself in the top group for Day. The Huskies will have a chance to capitalize on some momentum this weekend.
Day is the No. 324 overall prospect and No. 31 safety in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 2 player in Nevada.
As a junior for Faith Lutheran, Day tallied 110 tackles, a pair of interceptions and a pair of forced fumbles. The Crusaders finished as the No. 4 team in Nevada last season, according to the On3 Composite Rankings.

Washington looking to sign elite class this cycle
The end of the spring has been kind to head coach Jedd Fisch and the UW staff on the recruiting trail. Eight of the nine commits in the Huskies’ class have joined since March.
On April 24, Washington native and Mater Dei (Calif.) five-star offensive tackle Kodi Greene flipped his pledge from Oregon to UW. Greene ranks No. 10 nationally in the On300. On May 4, Seattle Kennedy Catholic four-star EDGE Derek Colman-Brusa, the No. 1 player in Washington, joined the fold.
April also brought a commitment from Wayne (N.J.) DePaul Catholic four-star quarterback Derek Zammit, the No. 16 signal-caller in the On300.
“It was a lot of things,” Zammit told Wiltfong about why he picked UW. “Obviously Coach Fisch, Coach Dougherty, Coach Losman, obviously they all played big factors in it. Just the relationship … Obviously the coaches, then the offense they run is pretty big and pretty important to me. They run a pro-style offense. Coach Fisch watched my film and showed direct comparison to their offense and the 49ers and Rams. That’s important to me.”
Portland Lakeridge three-star running back Ansu Sanoe has been in the fold since last April and is now the No. 33 RB in the cycle and the No. 2 player in Oregon. Last month brought a trio of commitments from Inglewood, Calif. native and IMG Academy (Fla.) three-star safety Ksani Jiles, Greene’s Mater Dei teammate and three-star safety CJ Lavender, as well as Tacoma (Wash.) Mount Tahoma three-star cornerback Elijah Durr.
Seattle Roosevelt three-star interior offensive lineman Ah Deong Yang and Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco three-star kicker CJ Wallace round out the class, which ranks No. 27 nationally, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
